Weekly Newsletter: March 10 2023

Last night, Senator Tim Kaine and I joined my good friend and colleague Delegate Rip Sullivan to kick off his campaign. Delegate Sullivan is running to represent you in the newly-drawn 6th House District. I have been your delegate for over 9 years, and it has been an honor to represent you in the Virginia House of Delegates. I could not think of a better person to fill my seat than Delegate Sullivan. I hope he will have your full support in the upcoming General Assembly elections.

I will continue to represent all of you in the 34th District for the rest of this year. I promise that you will continue to have my full attention. I appreciate hearing from you and encourage you to keep in touch. I can be reached in my district office at 571-766-6414 or  [email protected].

Sincerely,

Delegate Kathleen Murphy

Public Safety Update

With St. Patrick's Day on the horizon, the county's public safety agencies are encouraging everyone to not drink and drive, and to have a designated driver if you are out with friends. The Police Department will be monitoring the roads for drunk drivers, as well as aggressive and reckless driving. So please slow down, be responsible and #TakeAMoment when you are out on the roads.

If you do find yourself out and need a ride home, SoberRide will ensure you get a free Lyft ride (up to $15) on St. Patrick's Day, from 4 p.m., Friday, March 17 to 4 a.m. on Saturday, March 18. Learn more.

Route 7 Upcoming Lane Closures for March 12-17

Crews will be performing excavation and fill operations, clearing, storm pipe work, paving and other construction-related activities on March 12-17 along eastbound and westbound Route 7 and on other neighborhood streets.

As a reminder, drivers will experience lane shifts on Route 7, traffic pattern changes on neighborhood streets, and detours along the corridor. Please see the related traffic alerts. Temporary road closures are listed here.

During construction, drivers are asked to use caution and be alert to signs, flaggers and potential police direction in work zones. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering and exiting the road. Please see VDOT's video on navigating lane closure merges.

All work is subject to change based on weather and schedule. Crews may be conducting work during the overnight hours under the project's Fairfax County Noise Waiver permit.

Earthquake Relief Fund

The recent earthquakes in Turkey have had a devastating impact on the community in that region. More than 30,000 people have died and millions have been displaced due to the damage caused by the earthquakes and aftershocks. In the past, Northern Virginia has been extremely generous in helping those in need. The Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) has been asked about the donation of blankets, coats, etc. The feedback NVRC has received recently is that the biggest need right now in the earthquake zone is for shelter and food.

That is why NVRC is pleased to work with a trusted partner, Embrace Relief, to help purchase food for those in need. Your contribution of $45 helps purchase a 30-pound package of food that will be distributed to those in need. Donations are tax deductible. For more information, visit the Northern Virginia Regional Commission website.
